Have you ever wanted something in your life to change? Maybe be in a job that allows you to express yourself and your skills, where you thrive, instead of just do to pay the bills? Find a wonderful life partner? React differently to a trigger? Find a home that is safe and harmonious? Or just feel more peace and contentment, instead of stress and rush?

These things can seem so easy for some and so difficult for others. There are always many variables. But often there are unconscious programs, beliefs, thoughts that we are having that can be sabotaging our success. If you do not think you are enough, it will probably will show up in many areas of your life. Everything is connected and we are like TV studios, we are always broadcasting our electromagnetic programs to the world. Our thoughts, feelings and emotions are important, as they can influence our biochemistry and our bioelectrical output. It is physics. We also receive the broadcast of others, so we can read other’s energy field, if we are attuned to doing that - many are and we all have the potential to do it, unless our chronic stress is blocking the ability. Chronic stress responses block a lot of the receiving of life affirming information. So addressing chronic stress responses is vital if we wish to change and thrive not just survive.

If we wish to change something, we need to change something. Many people want change but without any discomfort. Change can be unsettling at first as we retrain and rewire our nervous system. Most times we have to change our inner environment before the outer and physical can change. It seems so difficult and even wishy washy, but it is the technique many athletes use to train. They use a form of visualising their goals and feeling them as if they already happened. The body cannot tell the difference.

What we focus on expands. If we repeatedly practice feeling how we wish to feel, if we had already received the new home, relationship or job….we begin to manifest it or attract it to us. What we focus on expands. It works in reverse too….have you ever focused on the negative outcome and it eventuated. Same process, just the less pleasant result was focused on.

It can be easy to give up as we cannot see anything changing. But just because there is no observable changes, yet, doesn’t mean there isn’t anything happening at a quantum or sub molecular level. (Unless you are negating the very thing you are trying to create by feeling it, visualising how it would feel to receive, then immediately think it was too hard or never likely to happen….the immediate negative cancelled out the other good work.) I confess I have done this innumerable times. I was a slow learner, as I wanted to SEE everything NOW. One thing about getting older, there is a chance of becoming wiser. I think I am getting there :).

So how have I gotten around this? (I still am a work in progress.) I realised I had been teaching it to clients for years.

When working as a physiotherapist I would always tell my clients with injuries that you have to have an idea of where you want to go; what you want to be able to do and how you want to feel when you get there . Then you take small steps towards that goal. Sounds easy and if there is a strong motivation i.e. overcome a physical injury or challenge, the end result can be tangible and easy to focus on. Especially if you have therapist to guide you. This is the process. But, I will explain a little more as the unconscious, quantum and microscopic aspects can be tricky to grasp. This injury example was on the macroscopic scale and much easier to comprehend.

This can also work for when we have a chronic pain, injury or illness. Instead of one event that caused the issue, it has been created over time. How does this happen? Many issues can be explained this way (not all). For a long time we may have been thinking, feeling or doing things that create an imbalance in our nervous system and biochemistry. Chronic inflammation has resulted. All chronic issues have too much inflammation on the cellular level but on the macro presentation a multitude of illnesses and injuries can present, depends on your set of variables. The only difference is, if this inflamed situation lasts long enough these biochemical changes result in more microscopic changes and if they keep on going without being addressed, often they eventually become bigger and a diagnosable physical issue has been created. Often our thoughts or beliefs can create these biochemical chain of events. So if they start them, they can be changed to create something better. It is always a two way street. The thoughts and beliefs precede the physical.

A metaphor for this is, if you go on a holiday to Hawaii (physical issue), you do not come home and then decide to plan (microscopiccellular changes) the trip to Hawaii. The physical follows what has been happening earlier. We do need to address the physical issue (most people are great at this) but also we need to address the root cause. Is it a toxic environment? Is it faulty beliefs? Is it thoughts that are not serving us? What is the root cause?

Imagine if you have an unconscious belief system that you are not good enough and that is running in the background all day? It doesn’t make for a harmonious internal environment for your cells. Unfortunately, many of us have an internal chemistry that is toxic to us even if we are exercising and eating well. If we have these unhelpful beliefs they will drive a dysregulated nervous system which can lead to biochemical and bioelectrical changes that are not life supporting over time and thus chronic symptoms often result. Likewise, if we keep thinking thoughts that put ourselves down and these are frequent and they can be toxic to our internal environment. The odd bad thought isn’t going to harm us, only the ones we have on repeat. For instance, if you keep telling yourself you are stupid or not good enough or think you are a failure, if you repeat this often enough your body is listening and the cells will be living in a toxic waste dump and if you do not have enough counterbalancing variables, then chronic injury and illness may result. Not always….

How we feel, what we think, influences how we act and behave. We can read each other, even if we don’t know we are doing this. You can spot a confident person and you can tell if someone doesn’t have much self worth. It is how actors work, they use body language, posture and words to convey the inner world of a character. It is how our body operates. (I often wonder what happens to the actors who are on stage for many months acting characters that are toxic or depressed or with faulty beliefs. Knowing that even acting can cause these chemical changes internally, because the body cannot tell the difference between real and imagined, I hope they have a good support system to counterbalance the roles potentially dysregulating effects.)

It can be challenging to try to change a behaviour or thought or emotion. There are many ways to do this. As a somatic therapist I work on releasing the sensations, feelings, emotions that the body is holding onto. It needs to be done carefully, gently with much sensitivity to any unprocessed traumas that may be hidden in the unconscious, but it can often assist to change the thoughts and feelings, as holding onto suppressed and repressed emotions can take up so much energy that the cells end up in a toxic inner environment. And by releasing these it can create a release of many toxic thoughts. Dr David Hawkins wrote, if you could surrender the unhelpful emotion/situation and it transformed into peace, then often one thousand thoughts related to this emotion/situation would change too. (Not sure how he measured 1000 thoughts, but I get his message). The feelings and emotions, if transformed can change thoughts because often there are many thoughts associated with one emotions or event.

Anyway this what I do for myself. It isn’t easy, but like anything with practice I am developing my skill at manifesting true and deep change. Let me know what you think?
